Welcome back everyone for another episode of American Real. This week we have a treat for you, as I sit down with mindfulness-based programs teacher, Rachael Leonard. I had lots of questions for Rachael as she covered topics such as anxiety and where emotions show up in our body. She demonstrated the importance of naming the emotion, and by doing so, how it changes our relationship with that emotion. Then, we engaged in a deep conversation about the constant chatter in our minds, which she referred to as the “monkey mind” and how that affects our awareness. Rachael provides some excellent tools with how to deal with distractions, as well as the best way to approach people who may be distracted during a phone conversation, or a face to face meeting. Finally, our guest provides a wealth of knowledge about mindfulness and insights regarding a scientific explanation of the neural mechanisms associated with meditation practice. You may want to have a notepad handy to capture the names of book recommendations she gives and other great tools.
