2. Kona Hawaii Blackwater Scuba Diving Encounter

Kendall Roberg published on

Sandy Hammel tells an amazing Scuba Diving Story that happened to her while guiding a Kona Hawaii Blackwater Dive. Lister to her tale of seeing the largest fish in the sea, at night, miles off shore. Sandy takes amazing scuba and free diving pictures and post them on her instragram @sandyseabottom

Blackwater diving is a unique night dive which will take you miles offshore where you will hang, suspended from a 60ft tether, over 4000ft of water to watch open ocean, or pelagic, animals drift by.  You'll have the opportunity to see animals ranging from perfectly clear larval fish and invertebrates to siphonophores, and even cephalopods out in the deep.  If you want to observe something you have never seen before, this is the dive for you.  Our divemasters are still surprised by new and exciting creatures in the deep.

Sandy has been working as a dive guide, scuba instructor, and free diving instructor for Kona Honu Divers for many years. Kona Honu Divers is one of many Kona Dive Shops, but it’s unique in that we offer the best scuba diving hawaii has to offer. Our Kona Dive shop is packed with custom art designs that are unique to our dive shop and can be found nowhere else in the world! Scuba diving the big island can be daunting with so much area to cover. Kona Honu Divers makes it easy to find the best scuba diving kona has to offer.
