Keeping abreast on informed consent

John Craig published on

Pat Kennedy zeros in on a big issue: the use of mammograms in diagnosing breast cancer. Using four decades of experience as a registered nurse in Canada she carefully explains how 'informed consent' has been almost non-existent in this issue. A passionate and balanced defender of our right to know the risks involved in shooting radioactive material through a breast sandwiched between plates (with metal chips permanently embedded in the soft tissue!) often multiple times in one session, she offers a sane and safe alternative to knowing our body's condition. It is thermography i.e. minute measurement of temperature changes all over the human body. She does not claim to have all the answers and she is clear in stating what thermography can and can not do. Informative, wise, inspiring and most of all eloquent Pat gives us the highlights of a long career in helping people get informed about their own bodies, their own health.
