The Bruins controlled the first period while testing Blues goaltender Jake Allen. Allen had to make several key saves to keep the Bruins off of the scoreboard in the first period. The Blues would take a 2-1 lead in the second on a goal by Carl Gunnarsson, but fomer Blues captain  David Backes would deflect a shot past Jake Allen for a 2-2 tie headed out of the second period. The Bruins took control in the third with 3 goals to get a home win 5-2.
