Crawdads, Quarks, and Cuffing Season

Sam Stein published on

Sam and Dan are back for Episode 12, and the winning streak continues! This week, we went to Ayesha Curry and Michael Mina's International Smoke.  We wanted to see what all the fuss was about.  Spoiler alert: the food was decidedly food; burger was decent but overpriced, and it's a bit of a schlep to get to from our part of town.

Dan starts his topic by talking about a tiny subatomic particle called quarks, but there's not a lot of trivia there unless you have a huge amount of physics knowledge, so the discussion pivots to a different topic from a different trivia night.  Ever heard of "Cuffing" season?  It's that time of year where fall turns to winter and millennials start tying themselves to their dating partners just to have a plus-one to the office Christmas party.  We dive into that and more as we explore millennial dating culture.

Sam's topic is a best-selling novel called "Where the Crawdad's Sing."  The topic itself was not all that interesting but we found it amusing that we had it right as a joke but decided to go with a more serious-sounding fill-in-the-blank answer.  The book spent 30+ weeks at the top of the New York Times bestseller list, thanks to Reese Witherspoon (which was surprisingly difficult to pronunce today).

RIP Whataburger and Schlitterbahn.
