forgot to add: I'm not sure what pages, and take or leave her work based on its rigor of research-- but I'm certain that somewhere in The Gnostic Gospels Elaine Pagels considers it basic gnostic tradition to play an artistic game of reinterpretation of Biblical canon, and that was most of the burr in the side of early, orthodox church leadership they posed. A creative one. I feel like I remember Talk Gnosis calling it Bible fanfic at some point. but since reading that I've considered artistic co-optation & reinterpretation a sort of basic gnostic skill and holy practice. so yeah a resounding agreement with you both!
